The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is seeking two staff Urologists to serve at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center, St. Petersburg, Florida and the Lee County VA Healthcare Center, Cape Coral, Florida. Urologists are accountable to the Chief, Urology Section, Surgery Service, for assuring the most effective delivery of care in General Urology while meeting and exceeding compliance standards. The Urologists will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

• Participate in and/or manage all aspects of a general urology program, to include clinical, administrative, academic, and research components if warranted.

• Manage patient workload within available staffing, which may include support of physician assistants.

• Perform the usual administrative components of patient care management, such as: documentation of progress notes and consultation findings in an electronic medical record, dictation and electronic signature of OP reports and hospital discharge summaries, electronic entry and signature of all doctors’ orders for inpatients and outpatients, etc.

• Provide surgical treatment for genitourinary injuries and diseases including major and minor procedures, stone management, urology consultations for inpatients and outpatients, and participate in VA-approved cooperative research studies.

C. W. Bill Young VA Medical Center does require call.


• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice Medicine in a state, territory or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia. Board Certified or board eligible.

• Physicians, including residents appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38USC 7402(d) and 7407 (d).

• Degree of doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

• You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for this position.

• You must successfully complete a pre-employment physical to include drug screening, suitability screening (background check) and credentialing prior to appointment. After appointment, there is a requirement for random testing for illegal drug use.

• Clinical privileges must be recommended by the Chief, Staff/Professional Standards Board and granted by the Director, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. Employment is contingent on the ability of the physician to be credentialed by the VA Network Credentialing Office.

FEDERAL RETIREMENT: You will earn benefits toward a federal retirement as a VA Physician. Depending on your age, you can retire from federal government with as little as 10 years of service. Military service time counts and any other federal service time you have accumulated do as well.

SALARY: VA Physician salaries are determined by a compensation panel of physicians at the facility where you practice medicine. VA salaries are very competitive and are based on physician salaries of the local market, your years of experience, your specialty, board certifications and credentials as a physician.
