The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Bern is one of five medical faculties in Switzerland. Clinical research is a strategic priority of the Faculty. The Clinical Trial Unit (CTU) advises clinicians in the design and conduct of clinical studies, monitors and manages clinical studies in Switzerland and abroad, analyzes data and provides undergraduate and postgraduate education in biostatistics, clinical epidemiology and good clinical practice. CTU Bern employs some 40 staff and offers a lively, interdisciplinary environment with excellent computing and library facilities. Premises are shared and close collaboration exists with the Institute of Social & Preventive Medicine and the Institute of Primary Care.

Professor of Clinical Research and

Director Clinical Trial Unit Bern

As the new director of CTU Bern, the successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating activities and providing leadership in the areas of clinical research methods, biostatistics, project and data management, monitoring and regulatory affairs, and clinical investigation. The position is advertised as an open rank professorship. Depending on his or her qualifications and experience, the successful applicant will therefore be appointed at a level ranging from Assistant Professor to Full Professor and Member of Faculty. The position will be filled in coordination with and complementary to the call for a new Director at the Faculty Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM).

Applicants are expected to have a strong, independent academic track record and teaching experience in clinical and epidemiological research, preferably with a focus on clinical trials, cohort studies, and/or meta-analysis. Candidates must have a record of excellence and accomplishment in original research and extramural competitive research funding. A medical degree and a PhD or equivalent training in clinical research methodology and a record of leading research teams are mandatory. Experience in leading large multicenter clinical research projects, including (pragmatic) randomized controlled trials would be particularly welcome. Interest and experience in teaching clinical research methods and biostatistics would also be an asset. We are looking for a collaborative personality (“team player”) who enjoys interacting and working with clinicians and other specialists.
