The Pediatric Palliative Care (PPC) Program of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) seeks a physician with advanced training and/or experience in Hospice and Palliative Medicine to join our interdisciplinary team as a:

Pediatric Palliative Medicine Physician and Innovator: Provide clinical care as part of a robust clinical program, with additional opportunities to engage in research, teaching, quality improvement, and other academic activities.

The successful candidate will have a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and clinical privileges at both DFCI and BCH. Academic appointments will be at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level. Salary, benefits and compensation will be consistent with experience and hospital policies.   Requirements include: † Board certification in pediatrics or one of its sub-specialties  † BC/BE in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Palliative Medicine Fellowship training preferred.

Clinical: Physician members of the Pediatric Palliative Care Program serve as attending physicians providing direct patient care in the inpatient and outpatient setting to patients with serious illnesses (both cancer and other illnesses).  They provide clinical supervision to interdisciplinary palliative care fellows, fellows from other disciplines, residents, and students. Attending physicians collaborate with our Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and Social Workers.

Academic: We offer opportunities to focus your academic effort and growth in the areas of education, research, quality improvement, and/or innovative program development/leadership.  We also offer expert, intensive mentoring in each of these areas.

Educational: Participation in extensive formal and informal teaching activities at BCH, DFCI, and the Harvard Medical School Center for Palliative Care. Teaching duties include supervision, training, and evaluation of: fellows in palliative care; residents; medical students; and other clinicians rotating on the Pediatric Palliative Care Service.

Research: Outstanding research opportunities are available throughout DFCI, BCH and the HMS community.  Faculty are encouraged but not required to participate in research activities internally within the Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care or through external collaborations.

Quality Improvement: QI is essential to the success of our palliative care program and a high priority nationally. Faculty have opportunities to lead and mentor trainees in QI initiatives.

Program Development: PPC is continually expanding at our centers and in the community and much of the growth is related to innovative collaborative program development.
